This opening module sets the stage for the entire bootcamp. Participants are introduced to the foundations of Lean Product Engineering and to the core idea behind the program: building successful products requires learning deeply from customers, designing for coherence, and making smarter decisions across product, design, engineering, and business.
-
Great products begin with a better understanding of customers in their real context. Participants learn how to explore the customer gemba to perceive what is often missed in interviews, analytics, or internal discussions. They will learn how to observe more sharply, challenge their assumptions, and uncover the insights that help prevent unpleasant surprises once the product reaches customers' hands.
-
This module goes beyond superficial needs and feature requests to uncover what truly drives customer choice: stable client preferences. Participants learn how to identify these preferences, use the Client Radar Chart to make them visible, and focus their product efforts on what truly matters. This helps teams escape feature frenzy and build a more coherent, value-driven product strategy.
-
Products become memorable when they create an emotional response and resolve a difficult trade-off that customers deeply care about. Participants learn how to identify the hard trade-off their product must resolve better than anyone else, and how to connect this resolution to a strong emotional payoff. They will also learn how to use a storyboard to bring a product concept to life and align teams around a compelling vision.
-
Instead of starting with features, this module starts with critical performances. Participants learn how to translate customer preferences into measurable product expectations that guide design and engineering decisions. Rather than debating vague ideas or overloaded roadmaps, they learn to focus on the few performances that truly drive customer value and adoption.
-
This module introduces cost as a product design characteristic, not simply a budgeting concern. Participants learn how hidden costs are generated along the product value flow through poor design choices, operational irritants, and unresolved problems. Using Target Costing principles, they learn how to design for profitability earlier, make hidden costs visible, and improve product economics without damaging value.
-
Teams often design architecture backwards, starting with technologies then trying to fit them to customer problems. In this module, participants learn how to reverse that logic and design from the outside in: starting from customer preferences and critical performances. They will connect value expectations, performance requirements, and technology choices into a coherent product system, using set-based design principles.
-
Building great products requires a leadership system that connects product vision, engineering, and business decisions. Participants discover how Obeya helps product leaders create coherence across teams and functions. They will learn how to design and lead an Obeya, use it as a true decision and learning system, and why it often fails when misunderstood as a reporting room or a meeting ritual.
